Tree Removal

Dead, leaning, split by a storm or too close to the house. When a tree has to come down, we take it down safely and clear the way. We use a bucket truck for jobs that need one and offer 24 hour emergency service.

Taking down trees safely

Every tree is different. We look at the trunk, the branches, what is under the tree and how we can reach it. Then we decide how it comes down, in one piece where there is room or in sections where there is not. Our bucket truck helps on tall trees and tight spots.

Dead and dying trees

A dead tree does not get better. Bare branches in summer, peeling bark, cracks in the trunk and mushrooms at the base are all signs a tree is on its way out. Once the wood dries out and weakens, limbs or the whole tree can come down without warning.

Emergency and storm damage

Wind takes trees down. When Tropical Storm Isaias hit on August 4, 2020, downed trees and wires left about 1.4 million New Jersey households without power at the peak, according to Governor Murphy. If a tree comes down on your house, driveway or fence, call (862) 432-5792. If it is on power lines, stay away from it and call your power company and 911 first.

In New Jersey

Ash trees and the emerald ash borer

New Jersey's Department of Agriculture first found the emerald ash borer, a beetle that kills ash trees, in Somerset County in May 2014. The Morris County Park Commission reports it is now throughout Morris County and New Jersey. Infested ash trees die within a few years, and dead ash wood becomes weak and brittle. If you have a dead or dying ash near your house, driveway or power lines, do not wait for it to fall.

Town rules

New Jersey towns set their own tree rules. Some ask for a permit before a tree comes down and some ask for a replacement tree. Springfield, for example, has a permit process and replacement rules for larger trees. Check with your town first, and ask us at your estimate.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does tree removal cost?
Every tree is different. The price depends on the size of the tree, how close it is to buildings, and how hard it is to reach. Call or use the form for a free estimate so you know the price before we start. Taking away the wood and brush is part of the job, and if you want the stump ground too, tell us so it goes into the same price.
Do you take down storm-damaged trees?
Yes. Call (862) 432-5792 any time. We offer 24 hour emergency service. If a tree is down on your house, car or driveway, stay clear of it and of any wires, and call the power company first if lines are involved. Once it is safe, we take the tree off, cut it up and haul it away.
Can you remove a tree near my house?
Yes. We look at the tree and the space around it during your estimate and plan the job around your house, fence and yard. We have a bucket truck for jobs that need one. Close to a house, the tree usually comes down in sections from the top instead of all at once, so each piece is lowered where it will not hit anything.
How do I know if a tree is dead?
Look for bare branches while other trees have leaves, bark that is peeling off, cracks in the trunk and mushrooms at the base. A dead tree gets more brittle every year and can drop large limbs without warning, especially in wind or snow. If you are not sure, call us and we will take a look.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree?
It depends on your town and on the size and location of the tree. Many New Jersey towns have rules. Some towns set a trunk size above which a permit is needed, some ask for replacement trees, and some have their own exceptions for trees that are an immediate danger. Check with your town before the work, and ask us about it when you get your estimate. Our town pages list what we know about each town we serve.
